Remembering
Our five year old son talked about you last night.
I asked him if he wanted to visit your gravesite. He said no.
I said we could make a picture. We could bring it to you. I asked him what it should say.
He said "Dad, I'm really sorry you are not here anymore."
I asked him if he remembered you. He said it was hard.
He was four.
I asked him if he had memories of you.
He said some.
I asked "what are those memories?"
He said he remembers you yelling at him.
But he is still sorry you are not here.
I wish I could comprehend your sorrow.
ReplyDeleteSon & daughter are my stepkids, but the son slightly recalls his dad (was 18 months when the man passed; daughter was born 3 mos. after). But I've been in their lives 16 years now. I still can only try to imagine what my wife went through...
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts & prayers are with you.
